1. The Climates and the Seasons
Many people think that Cappadocia is a torrid inferno, especially in summer. Nothing could be further from the truth. Thanks to its altitude, the climate here is rather temperate. Spring can be cool and wet, and mid-June to mid-October is generally a continuous stream of warm, sunny days followed by cool pleasant nights.

If you love Nature and flowers, June in Cappadocia is close to paradise. And in winter, a brilliant sun shining down on snow-covered chimney rocks is as unforgettable as it is breathtaking.

2. Security
Turkey is a safe country.

The hospitality of the Turks is legendary. Deliquency, all too frequently encountered in more western cultures, just doesn't exist here (although we acknowledge that there are neighborhoods in the biggest cities that tourists shouldn't walk through in the wee hours of the night.)

Turkey's status as a long-term western strategic partner and ally makes it extremely well-protected from neighboring countries like Syria and Iraq.

3. Religion and Politics

Turkey is a moderate Islamic culture.

It is also a democratic country that has recently elected a resolutely pro-western and progressive government that is committed to fighting corruption and bringing economic reform. Turkey no longer deserves the reputation it inherited from the film "Midnight Express".

4. Traveling with Children

The Turks simply adore children. There's no other way to put it.

And children adore Cappadocia. It doesn't take a flight of imagination to see why: the whole place recalls Indiana Jones and the Lord of the Rings and the Red Planet everywhere you look... up to and including the nooks and crannies at your favorite hotel, Les Maisons de Cappadoce.

If you're coming here with children, tell us about it (and their ages) before you book and we will advise you on the child-friendliness of the different houses.

5. Swimming Pool

One of our houses, the Maison des Roses, has a beautiful built-in swimming pool. Also, there is a lovely private pool with a wonderful view just minutes away from the Houses. You can access this pool for a modest fee.

6. How Long Should I Plan on Spending in Cappadocia?

One week is ideal.

However, if you're planning a tour of quality sites in Turkey, it would be a shame to spend less than 4 nights here. We're happy to supply travelers with tips and advice on other travel destinations, so don't hesitate to contact us.

PS: unfortunately, the Turkish coast has been carelessly overbuilt over the last two decades and its interest as a travel destination has been severely impaired.

Elsewhere on this site we have published our preferred one week itinerary in Cappadocia.
